Stream to cut 20 jobs from Derry site.

It was on the cards for a few weeks now. Twenty staff at Stream in Derry were informed by letter that they will lose their jobs. Seems that a broadband provider has decided not to renew their contract with the company.

We're back to this supply and demand thing again. Depending on your cynisism (and mine is in abundance at the moment) you could look at it like this.

1. Invest NI invest in call centres in Newry and the like.
2. Newly invested call centre company fights for tender for broadband provider and is able to underwrite part of the cost with the money from Invest NI.
3. Jobs rise in new call centre.
4. Stream have to lay off staff to balance the work/staff ratios.

I could be completely wrong but it is a theory.
