Finding jobs on Twitter.

A number of Northern Ireland recruitment agencies are listing thier jobs on Twitter. Makes perfect sense to me. Either search on the #job tag or have a look at:
I'm sure there's a lot more...

What to Tweet and what not to Tweet, that is the question.

A nice little post of the 10 ways to commit social media suicide, brought to you by the Little Pink Book blog. Read it, take note and apply.

If you want to protect your brand then make sure you get it Twittered.

Or any other social media for that matter. There is an LA Times article on big brands but to be honest it could be Superflora for all I care. If you have a name then you need to protect it.

Full article is here.

It's okay to be a #TwitterSnob

Your network should be a reflection of i) you and ii) where you want to personally/professionally want to see yourself in the next phase or season of your existance.

Just because one person decides to follow you on Twitter or befriend you on Facebook doesn't not automatically give them the right to be followed back. Derek Hall was being given a hard time about not being reciprocal about every Twitter follow he was getting. A debate then ensues about this and an army of #TwitterSnobs is born. Me personally am happy to be one.

It's not about the quantity of follows, it's about the quality of follows.

Jive.ly - Another microblogging site, but a nice one.

I found Jively on Techcrunch this morning. Not so much a one man crusade but more of a continual evolution of microblogging.

Jively has got the channels, and the direct picture blogging thing so in effect it should do well. The design is nice too, pleasing on the eye. One thing I'm not sure on is the robustness, it's been up and down today since Techcrunch did their post on it. Hopefully they'll address Twitter's greatest failing which is no email replies to @user messages. (Identi.ca filled this gap nicely but I just don't get on with the site for some reason).

I'm keeping an eye on this one.

Twitter Job Search

It's not limited to jobs at Twitter, it's just a good search of jobs posted on Twitter.

Handy and here.

The 35,000ft view of Twitter

Yeah microblogging, that's what it is. Well yes and no. It's also a vast datastore of information on what real users think of your products. If a product is crap then people will Twitter, if they love it then they'll twitter too.

Find a way to data mine that little lot (10Gb+ and steadily increasing) then you may well be onto a winner. Don't believe me, pick a brand any brand and do a search at http://search.twitter.com and see the responses.

Twitter: The book about what it can do for your company.

Could be an interesting read if you are really hellbent on getting your company, business or venture into the Tweetstream. From the slightly over enthusiastic back cover blurb:

Millions of Internet users have fallen in love with the Twitter "microblogging" service, which lets them swap brief text "tweets." Now companies are embracing the service to engage customers, promote products and monitor what is being said about their brands. Given the passion and high profiles of "Twitterverse" denizens, the service has evolved into a vital early-warning system for businesses seeking to stave off criticism, and as a way to build better relationships with customers. That is why companies need to know Twitter. Embracing it can help a business thrive; ignoring the service could well hurt it. For companies unfamiliar with Twitter, this book serves as a field guide. They will get a Twitterverse tour, and learn about the dozens of firms big and small that have harnessed Twitter as a powerful, flexible business tool. The bottom line: Twitter means business.

You can order a copy of Twitter Means Business: How Microblogging Can Help or Hurt Your Company here.

James Caan on the Money Programme this Thursday

First of all Theo (if you saw Panorama last night), now James. Deborah Meaden was lurking in the bowels of News24 with Evan Davis on "The Bottom Line" on Saturday night as well. One can only assume that Duncan is waterskiing and Peter is playing tennis :)

James Caan just tweeted about the Money Programme this coming Thursday at 7:30pm. All a bit cryptic (I love Twitter and it's 140 character crypticness) but expect some interesting career advice.

(PS: not one for advertising here but if you haven't read James' book, it's definately worth a read. The Real Deal: My Story from Brick Lane to the Dragons' Den)

The Top 25 Social Networking Sites

Figures are based on compete.com's user visit data and not the amount of registered users. On first glance there's a few surprises.

1. facebook.com
2. myspace.com
3. twitter.com
4. flixster.com
5. linkedin.com
6. tagged.com
7. classmates.com
8.myyearbook.com
9. livejournal.com
10. imeem.com
11. reunion.com
12. ning.com
13.blackplanet.com
14. bebo.com
15. hi5.com
16. yuku.com
17. cafemom.com
18. friendster.com
19. xanga.com
20. 360.yahoo.com
21. orkut.com
22. urbanchat.com
23. fubar.com
24. asiantown.net
25. tickle.com

There's no major shock in terms of the top three. Linkedin creeping up was expected as the upper management started fearing for their jobs and ensued vigourous networking.

Interesting to see that Google's offering, Orkut, is way down futher than I expected. It was originally developed during one employee's 20% time (staff were given 20% of their paid time to work on personal projects). It's still widely used in the far east but generally ignored for the big three in the west.

Bebo has just become a teenagers playground and it's hitting my ignore list rapidly. Each to their own I suppose.
